Why do turtles hide in their shells?

乌龟躲进壳里,是为了保护自己软软的身体部分。

Wūguī duǒ jìn ké lǐ, shì wèile bǎohù zìjǐ ruǎnruǎn de shēntǐ bùfen.

乌龟的壳是它身体的一部分,不只是背着走的小房子。乌龟觉得紧张,或者想要保护自己的时候,就可以把头和脚缩进去。硬硬的壳会帮它挡住那些比较软、比较需要保护的地方。

Wūguī de ké shì tā shēntǐ de yí bùfen, bù zhǐshì bēizhe zǒu de xiǎo fángzi. Wūguī juéde jǐnzhāng, huòzhě xiǎng yào bǎohù zìjǐ de shíhou, jiù kěyǐ bǎ tóu hé jiǎo suō jìnqù. Yìngyìng de ké huì bāng tā dǎngzhù nàxiē bǐjiào ruǎn, bǐjiào xūyào bǎohù de dìfang.

如果你是一只乌龟,你觉得自己会在什么时候想缩进去,让自己更安全一点呢?

Turtles hide in their shells to help protect their soft body parts.

A turtle's shell is part of its body, not just a little house it carries around. When a turtle feels nervous or wants to stay safe, it can pull in its head and legs. The hard shell helps cover the softer parts that need more protection.

If you were a turtle, when do you think you would want to tuck in and feel extra safe?
